About me
Matthew Hashiguchi is an Assistant Professor in Multimedia Film & Production at Georgia Southern University and a documentary filmmaker whose work uncovers the diverse experiences, identities and cultures of American society. His first feature-length documentary, Good Luck Soup, was broadcast nationally on PBS World’s America ReFramed in May 2017, received a 2016 Documentary Fund Award from the Center for Asian American Media and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, premiered at the 2016 Cleveland International Film Festival and received an award for Best Local Documentary at the 2016 Chagrin Documentary Film Festival. In addition to the traditional film, Good Luck Soup features a web-based, interactive documentary and a virtual reality documentary.
Matthew’s previous works have also received recognition. His first short film, The Lower 9, received a 2nd Place Gold Circle Award and grant from The Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors Foundation and an award for Best Short Documentary at the Spring 2012 Asians on Film Festival. People Aren’t All Bad, a short documentary, screened at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival and was a finalist for Smithsonian Magazine’s 2014 In Motion Video Contest.
